At AMG London, we’re delighted to host a state of the art facility offering advanced varicose vein treatments. Headed by vascular surgeon Dr Adam Power, the clinic offers consultations, assessments, diagnosis and the very latest treatment options for various venous conditions.
What are varicose veins?
Varicose veins form when blood flows the wrong way down a vein due to a blood vessel valve malfunction. Often this happens spontaneously, but can be linked to other problems such as phlebitis or DVT (deep vein thrombosis). Around 20% of the Canadian adult population will be affected by varicose veins, and women are slightly more likely to have the condition than men.
What are the symptoms of varicose veins?
Varicose veins can show as a blue bulge under the skin, or skin discolouration. The legs may feel ‘heavy’, the skin may be red and tender, and around 70% of patients experience night-time itching. Some people don’t experience any symptoms in their legs apart from a change in visual appearance.
Varicose vein diagnosis and assessment
It is important that you seek professional medical help for the diagnosis, assessment and treatment of any venous condition. At the Advanced Medical Vein Clinic at AMG London, you will be assessed by one of Dr Power’s expert team, and be given an ultrasound scan to assess the vein(s) affected.
Varicose vein treatments
Dr Power and his team will discuss your assessment with you, and together you can plan what treatment is required, from conservative medical management through to minimally invasive options.

The VenaSeal system for varicose veins
The most important role of any varicose vein invasive treatment is to stop the wrong way flow of blood, know as reflux. The VenaSeal system is a revolutionary system that seals up the affected vein, preventing the reverse flow of blood and subsequent damage to the skin and leg.
The system seals the diseased vein with special adhesive inserted via a small catheter, under local anaesthetic. The procedure usually takes less than one hour, and most patients can return to their normal daily routine straight afterwards. The system is quicker and more comfortable than other multi-insertion methods, with minimal bruising and no need to wear a compression stocking for days afterwards.
