At AMG we are proud to offer a range of healthcare professionals who utilize traditional medicine in alliance with lifestyle medicine. This month we are delighted to introduce the latest addition to our team, Chiropractor Dr Landon Burden.

What is a chiropractor?

Chiropractors are highly trained healthcare professionals who assess, diagnose and manage conditions of the musculoskeletal (MSK) and associated neurological system. Over 4 million Canadians visit a chiropractor each year.

Musculoskeletal (MSK) pain is the number one disability worldwide and is a common problem faced by patients in Canada. A chiropractor can provide appropriate conservative care for a broad range of MSK conditions related to the spine, pelvis, nervous system and joints.

Chiropractors recommend and provide treatments that can help relieve pain and improve function without surgery or pharmaceuticals. They use methods such manipulation, mobilization, soft tissue therapy, exercises, and education.

Benefits of chiropractic care

Chiropractic treatment is as much about prevention as recovery, as Dr Burden says:

“It is my goal as a Chiropractor to promote recovery, prevent injury and inspire others on how to achieve a better overall state of health.”

The benefits of chiropractic include:

The Canadian Chiropractic Association has set a goal that “Chiropractors will be an integral part of every Canadian’s healthcare team by 2023”.

How Dr Burden can help you

Dr Burden in a firm advocate of putting you, the patient, at the epicenter of his care.

“I am dedicated to providing exceptional and compassionate patient-centred care on each and every visit. I will implement a variety of treatment options tailored towards reducing pain, maximizing recovery and improving your overall state of health.”

His specialist skills include:

Spinal adjustments

These are made to correct joint motion, improve function and restore proper movement. Spinal manipulative therapy (SMT) is a highly-skilled technique which uses precise movements to the vertebrae of the spine.

Extremity adjustments

Any area which is not part of the spinal column can be classed as a chiropractic extremity. Adjustments can be made to ribs, shoulders, elbows, hands, wrists, hips, knees, feet, ankles or toes. Patients often say they have pain in one part of the body when actually it’s an issue elsewhere causing the pain. In these instances, adjustments might need to be made in more than one place. During adjustments, patients often report an audible ‘popping’ noise. This occurs when an air bubble escapes from the joint capsule.

Myofascial release

The myofascial tissues are the hard membranes that surround, support and join the muscles. In some people, pain builds up within the myofascial tissues. The pain is unique from other pain symptoms because it stems from rigid, fixed spaces in the myofascial tissues known as ‘trigger points’. Myofascial release is a hands-on therapy which releases this pain and in turn relieves muscle pain.

Posture and proper body mechanics

Everything in our bodies is interconnected. This includes the MSK and related neurological systems, comprised of bones, muscles, joints, nerves, and connective tissues. The MSK provides form, support and stability. Practising good posture helps the MSK to help us to move!

Rehabilitation

Successful rehabilitation enables every patient to return to and reach their optimal functional level as quickly and smoothly as possible.
